Pickle-Obsessed Southern Restaurant Is Opening in Austin

A new Southern restaurant with a heavy emphasis on pickles is taking over the former Lox, Box, and Barrel space on 9521 Highway 290 in far southwest Austin. The Pickle House, courtesy of Austin pickle company Pogue Mahone Pickles, is set to open on Friday, February 22.

The menu will feature a ton of pickles, naturally, including a dedicated pickle bar with 12 varieties. The Southern-leaning menu will feature dishes like pickle fried chicken, pickles and queso, fried pickle cheeseburgers. Non-pickle dishes will include chicken pot pie, smothered country pork chops, and morning biscuit sandwiches. Beverages include beer, wine, coffee, and fountain drinks.

Owner Sam Addison is working with chef and general manager Brian Harper. Both graduated from Le Cordon Bleu.

Addison started Pogue Mahone in 2011, selling jarred pickles at farmers markets, restaurants, and retail stores. The company has won the Good Food Awards four years in a row.

Lox, Box, and Barrel close, the deli and restaurant from smoked salmon company Celtic Seafare, closed before Thanksgiving. Owner Sebastien Caillabet still plans on reopening the restaurant, though there are no set plans as of yet.
