Poke Poke opened its third location in Austin at 9911 Brodie Lane. The restaurant started as a food cart in Venice Beach, California, then expanded to two brick and mortars on South Congress and in Allandale. There are expansion plans for Houston and Dallas, too.
Texas Bourbon Contest
Hye-based whiskey distillery Garrison Brothers has started its celebration of Texas Independence Day, which is March 2, with a cocktail contest. Bartenders from over 50 restaurants across the state (including Better Half, Central Standard, Fixe, and The Eleanor in Austin) are serving limited-time cocktails using Garrison Brothers’ Small Batch Bourbon for a chance to compete head-to-head on March 2 for a $10,000 prize at the Bourbon Brawl.
Central Texas Restaurants on Bon Appétit Show
Mexican restaurant Suerte, distillery Desert Door Sotol, and ceramics maker Keith Kreeger are among the Austin brands represented in a new show called “It’s Alive: Goin’ Places,” on Bon Appétit magazine’s new streaming channel. The show is hosted by Brad Leone and the first season is focused on Central Texas.
