A new East Austin restaurant with a focus on New York-style sandwiches is now open in Govalle. The Front Page Restaurant and Bar can be found within the Springdale General complex at 1023 Springdale Road. It opened during South by Southwest in mid-March.

Front Page’s neighborhood-friendly, counter-service menu highlights New York-style sandwiches, made with bread that’s baked in-house. Along with presumably other dishes, there will be cocktails, 16 beer taps, and a lengthy wine list.

Front Page’s owners and operators are Shafer Hall and Andrew Porter, who are both from Texas. Co-owner Ben Fordham is also the restaurant’s food manager. Hall and Porter both worked at New York City Irish bar The Four-Faced Liar. Shafer was also a founding partner of Houston bar Mongoose Versus Cobra. Fordham ran several Mexican restaurants in England, including Benito’s Hat.

The Front Page space, which is meant to look warm with wood details, is being designed by Springdale General neighbors Blue Sky Design.

Springdale General will also become home to Kome’s upcoming new hand roll restaurant Uroko, French bakery Julie Myrtille, and a new Caffe Medici coffee shop, complete with a roasting facility.
