Food Truck Shutter
Southeast Asian food truck Thai Kun closed up its sole meals-on-wheels location in Austin last month. The truck, which was parked at East Austin bar Whisler’s, held its last day of service on Sunday, November 30. The truck plans on reopening somewhere else in the city, but there is no set address as of yet. This Thai Kun had been open at Whisler’s since late 2014. Currently, there’s the Thai Kun restaurant up in Rock Rose, parent restaurant East Side King on South Lamar, and East Side King’s food truck at also-East Sixth bar Liberty.
The new food truck taking over Whisler’s is Asian-American comfort food truck Golden Tiger, which had been previously parked at Container Bar. The menu is heavy on chicken sandwiches (both fried and grilled), burgers, fries, and chicken tenders. Its hours are from 4 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. weekdays and noon to 1:45 a.m. weekends.
New Coffee Shop Opening
The Hill Country Galleria has a new coffee shop-slash-shop with the opening of Runaway Luna Coffee House & Lifestyle Boutique, courtesy of bag company Runaway Luna. On deck are the leather handbags, accessories, coffee from Big Bend Coffee Roasters, and baked goods coursed from The Bearded Baking Company. It’s found at 12800 Hill Country Boulevard, Suite G130, open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
Downtown Austin restaurant The Bonneville is taking a holiday break this month. The 202 West Cesar Chavez Street restaurant will be closed from Monday, December 23 through Monday, December 30. While this means the restaurant will be closed during Christmas Eve for its usual French-Canadian Christmas Eve dinner, it will host the dinner earlier on Saturday, December 21.
