New Vegan Food Truck Park
Austin is getting another vegan food truck court with the opening of The Outpost Food Park from the owners of the popular Vegan Nom. It will be found at 1403 East Seventh Street, next to Revival Coffee, starting on Thursday, December 12. Along with Vegan Nom’s truck, other trailers include Kombucha bar Bruja’s Brew and soul food truck Sassy’s Vegetarian. The space also features a music stage and event area. During its opening day, there’s a happy hour and party from 7 to 8 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. respectively, with free beer and food from 5 to 6 p.m.
Downtown Soup Restaurant Opening
That Soup Peddler in downtown Austin on West Third Street will open on Saturday, December 7. To celebrate, it’s offering half-off drinks that day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Chef of the Year
Comedor chef Gabe Erales was named as one of Tribeza’s people of the year, because of the way he elevates and experiments with Mexican food.
Restaurant Week Special
Reservation platform Resy is bringing its whole Off Menu week to Austin, where participating restaurants will offer what the company is describing as “behind-the-scenes” access to dishes that aren’t typically served. Of the restaurants, Mexican restaurant Suerte will offer flour tortillas (instead of its usual corn ones) and tacos sudados; Japanese-Texas izakaya Kemuri Tatsu-ya will make smoked kabocha squash among other dishes; Old Thousand will offer family meal dishes like fried black pepper tofu, and butcher shop restaurant Salt & Time will offer seafood. It runs from Monday, December 9 through Sunday, December 15.
