Austin cidery Moontower Cider opened a cider tasting room in East Austin at its production facility on 1916 Tillery Street, as of mid-November.
The tasting room, found in the MLK neighborhood, features Moontower’s staple ciders, like the semi-dry, miel (made with honey wine and lemon), and the Perry (made with pears). There’s also small-batch ciders, which will only be available at the tasting room, such as the Wild and the Wickson, the latter of which incorporates crabapples.
The actual tasting room space features the bar (of course), and indoor and outdoor seating and tables. There are plans to host host different food trucks, too.
Owner Benjamin Weaver had been always interested in cider and traveled to heavy cider areas in Europe (France, Spain). He moved to Austin from Washington state in 2008, and opened Moontower in 2017. The canned beers are currently available throughout Austin and San Antonio.
Currently, Moontower’s tasting room hours are from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. There’s a whole opening weekend shindig from Friday, December 6 through Sunday, December 8.
Moontower’s cider tasting room is north of Austin Eastciders’s one down in Govalle.
