The Tonight Show in Austin
The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon was in Austin this week to film a special University of Texas Austin-themed episode of the show, featuring — who else — Matthew McConaughey. But before the actual show, Fallon grabbed food from city’s best taco truck Veracruz All Natural, and the staff was very happy. The episode itself included a segment that was partially filmed at campus dive bar Hole in the Wall, where he joked that he had experience with barbecue after dining at a restaurant called Texas Barbecue in Manhattan.
Tacodeli Day
The city’s getting another official taco-related day with the announcement of Tacodeli Day on November 8, in honor of the Austin-born restaurant chain’s 20th anniversary.
McConaughey at Sway
Speaking of McConaughey, the actor/UT Austin professor/UT minister of culture was profiled by his alma mater’s alumni publication Alcalde Magazine, and the interview took place at the Westlake location of upscale Thai restaurant Sway.
Pizza Chain Opening
Local pizzeria chain Austin’s Pizza is opening another location at 5425 Burnet Road, within bar mini-chain Little Woodrow’s, as of Thursday, November 7. Along with the usual items (pizza, pizza rolls, chicken wings, and cheesesticks), this location will feature calzones, sandwiches, fries, and fried pickles. Its hours are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and then from 11 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday. Austin’s Pizza’s parent company Murphy Adams Restaurant Group also runs Mama Fu’s Asian House.
