Kerlin BBQ, the essential barbecue and kolache/klobásník truck, is moving from its current home in East Austin. Its last day at 1700 East Cesar Chavez Street will be on Sunday, October 27.
After then, Kerlin will be found in its new location just blocks away at 2207 East Cesar Chavez, within the East Side Food Park, starting on Wednesday, October 30.
The relocation is due to the same reason Kerlin’s current food truck neighbor Veracruz All Natural is leaving by the end of the year: because the current landlord wants the lot empty by the end of the year in order to sell the space, as confirmed by a rep for the barbecue truck.
The landlord had originally given the taco truck a month to vacate the space in March, as well as Kerlin BBQ. Veracruz co-owners Reyna and Maritza Vazquez were then able to negotiate their lease through the end of the year. They also used that as the push to finally buy land for a physical restaurant in Webberville Road. That’s where the truck will move ahead of construction come 2020.
Kerlin’s relocated space will sell both barbecue and kolaches from the same truck. Its hours will remain the same: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until sold out from Wednesday through Sunday.
Kerlin BBQ pitmaster and owner Bill Kerlin opened the truck in 2013, followed by the dedicated kolache trailer in 2017.
Update, 4:53 p.m.: This article has been updated to confirm why Kerlin BBQ is moving and its hours at the new location.
