North Austin brewery and restaurant North by Northwest Brewing Co. is closing its South Austin brewery at 5701 West Slaughter Lane. Its last day will be on Saturday, February 2.
The reason behind the shutter is because of the construction along Slaughter Lane off MoPac. “Unfortunately, the construction work in the area has created an ongoing issue that we have tried to work around,” as noted in the shuttering statement, “but we’ve ultimately made the decision to close this location.”
The construction, which is meant to improve the intersections with bike lanes, pedestrian paths, and underpasses, are expected to be completed in early 2021.
The original Stonelake brewery, up on 10010 North Capital of Texas Highway in the Gateway area, will remain open.
Owner Davis Tucker opened North by Northwest in 1999, followed by the South Austin location in 2014. He also opened comfort food restaurant Red’s Porch in 2009 on South Lamar, followed by a second location on West Braker Lane in 2017.
