Kinda Tropical, the restaurant, bar, and convenience store in East Austin, is closed for now, because of unpaid taxes, sometime over the weekend. There is a sign on the door at 3501 East 7th Street noting that the Govalle spot “will be closed until further notice,” as reported by Chronicle.

Kinda Tropical seems to owe $63,634 in taxes to the Travis County Comptroller Office, as the alt-weekly reported. Eater has reached out for more information; watch this space for updates.

The shop took over the A-1 Food Mart on East 7th Street in May 2017 under owner Amy Mullins, who is also a co-owner of East Austin bar Yellow Jacket Social Club. It maintained the convenience store aspect of the market while adding a kitchen and bar.

Similarly, downtown hot dog restaurant Frank closed for the second time last fall because of unpaid taxes. It shuttered its campus location, and the downtown restaurant still hasn’t reopened.
