The current United States government shutdown, which began in late December, still continues, which means that federal employees have gone without paychecks since then. To help out, Austin restaurants and bakeries are offering discounts to those furloughed workers with valid IDs. This guide will be updated throughout the length of the closure.

Bakery Lorraine
11600 Rock Rose Avenue, Domain Northside
The San Antonio import bakery is offering a free coffee and a pastry to furloughed government employees starting today. This could include croissants, morning buns, danishes, cinnamon rolls, and more. (This also applies to its San Antonio locations.)
Punch Bowl Social
11310 Domain Drive, Domain
The Austin location of the combination bowling alley, restaurant, and bar is offering 25 percent discounts on food, drinks, and games to all federal government employees throughout the shutdown. The deal also applies to specials and happy hours.
Bird Bird Biscuit
2701 Manor Road, Cherrywood
The biscuit shop will extend its staff discount to furloughed federal employees throughout the length of the shutdown, which means free coffee and half-off food.
Hopdoddy Burger Bar
Multiple Locations
The Austin-based burger chain will offer a free meal to furloughed federal employees only on Wednesday, January 23. This includes a burger, french fries, and non-boozy drink. Otherwise, it will offer 25% off meals to those employees through the length of the shutdown.
Modern Market
Multiple Locations
All locations of the healthy fast-casual chain will offer free grain bowls to federal employees through the length of the shutdown, available from Fridays through Sundays, 5 p.m. until each restaurant closes for the day.
Circle Brewing Company
2340 West Braker Lane, North Burnet
The brewery will give out a free beer to federal employees through Sunday, January 20.
