East Austin gelato shop and Italian cocktail bar Gelateria Gemelli is expanding into South Austin with its second store. It will be found along South Congress Avenue as part of the forthcoming Music Lane development bordered by East Riverside Drive, Academy Drive, and Music Lane. It should open sometime in 2020.
The South Austin version of Gemelli will be similar to the original, with classic gelato flavors like olive oil, fernet stracciatella, and pistachio. For drinks, there will be espresso, Italian cocktails, and an expansion amaro selection.
The second Gemelli’s layout will emphasize the bar and feature a mural from artist Xavier Schipani. It will include marble, black, white, and gold details like the original one.
Owner Andrew Sabola wanted to open a second Gemelli to service the area of South Austin, plus, “foot traffic is probably the best in the whole city” there, he told Eater.
Gemelli will join private social club Soho House (which will include a public restaurant) and Dallas-based taco chain Velvet Taco’s second Austin location.
Sabola opened Gemelli on 2009 East 6th Street in 2015.
