It looks like a new restaurant is taking over the old Vox Table space within Lamar Union. South End Connection Pizza & Bar is courtesy of the group behind coffee shop mini-chain Barley Bean and neighboring market and restaurant Artista Rosso. It’s set to open sometime in the fall at 1100 South Lamar Boulevard in the Zilker neighborhood.
While the restaurant’s rep declined to provide further information, it’s safe to say that Artista’s executive chef Jennifer Coffman will be involved. Her “passion lies in pizza,” according to Barley Bean’s website. She also received a pizza certification through Goodfella’s Pizza School in New York. The restaurant will be overseen by Barley Bean’s CEO Mohit Mehra.
Mehra and Coffman opened Artista Rosso in August featuring a seemingly all-encompassing menu with a whole bunch of bars (cannolis, toasts, gelato) as well as dinner-only pastas.
New American restaurant Vox Table closed without any notice earlier this year on Valentine’s Day, much to the dismay of diners who had reservations for the holiday that evening. Prior to the shutter, owner Vincent Manguino also quickly opened and closed modern Mexican restaurant El Burro within seven months the previous year, which was also found within the same Lamar Union complex.
