— That Wendy’s found within the University of Texas Austin campus’ Jester Hall decided to embrace its nickname — Jendy’s (mashing up its location and its actual name) — by changing its name to that moniker, complete with a new sign. The fast food chain approved of the change on Twitter too.

— Barbecue and vegan Twitter is going crazy over Kevin Biegel’s attempt at making vegan brisket, where barbecue enthusiasts didn’t understand why vegan meat is necessary and didn’t approve of the end result, and vegan supporters defending his dish. He ended up using Franklin Barbecue sauce for the fake meat concoction. (Vegan barbecue does exist in Austin with BBQ Revolution, which serves up fake brisket made with wheat.)
— Shiner Beer’s parent brewery Spoetzl is teaming up with Balcones Distilling for an Oktoberfest beer. The Spoetzl Märzen is a barrel-aged beer made with Munich malt, Hallertau, and Hersbrucker varietals. It’s only going to be out in a limited release in Texas at retail stores and events starting on Monday, October 1.
— The replacement restaurant for now-shuttered far north spot Mongo Fire Mongolian Grill is here with Indian restaurant Chica’s Fire and Grill, which opened on Saturday, September 15 at 12636 Research Boulevard.
— The Good Food Media Network put together a list of the Good Food 100 Restaurants, which highlights those establishments that focus on thoughtful food and ingredient purchasings, through emphasizing sustainability, ethical sourcing, and the such. Austin restaurants include Barley Swine, Odd Duck, L’oca d’Oro, and Salt & Time.
