Wholy Bagel, the essential South Austin bagel shop, is opening a new location up in the Northwest Hills neighborhood. The new bagel restaurant will be found on 3637 Far West Boulevard, starting sometime in January 2019.
The menu will remain the same as the West William Cannon Drive shop: bagels, cream cheeses, sandwiches (lox, pastrami, corned beef, eggs, etc.), and desserts like black and white cookies and crumb cake. It will also offer more prepackaged food items like smoked fish, whitefish salads, cream cheese, and yogurt parfaits.
Owners Richard and Nicole Spiegel decided to open the new location because it was the “‘ideal’ spot” because of the neighborhood and demand in the area. The new store will have an “art deco feel” meant to connect them to their East Coast roots, according to Richard.
The Spiegels took over Wholy Bagel in 2015 from founder Scott Campanozzi, who opened the shop in 2010 with the goal of bringing New York-style bagels to Austin.
In a reverse bagel expansion, Northwest Hills Jewish-style spot Biderman’s Deli is opening a downtown Austin location sometime this month.
