East Side Pies, one of Austin’s best pizzerias known for its thin-crust pizza, is undergoing a major growth spurt. First, the pizzeria is opening a brand new location up in far north Austin at 13265 North Highway 183, which is now open. Second, the original 1401 Rosewood Avenue pizzeria is finally opening that expansion and next-door standalone market serving up coffee, beer, baked goods, and prepackaged foods. Finally, it’s opening another restaurant within the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Opening the 183 pizzeria up north was a “no-brainer,” according to co-founder/owner Noah Polk. There was a demand for East Side Pies’ pizza delivery in the area, but it had been out of its usual delivery service. Expect the same menu with the large array of pies with various sauce options (from red to black bean to chimichurri) and toppings. It opened on Friday, September 21.
The market and expansion are meant to “compliment what we have and really what the neighborhood really needs,” Polk said. The new entrance for the pizzeria, complete with with air conditioning, will sit on Angelina Street, and the building will feature a new patio that extends along the longer space.
The unnamed market (for now) will serve to-go beers and wine, as well as tapped beer, coffee (including espresso-based drinks), pastries (the “best croissant in town,” Polk said), desserts, and pre-packaged food items (beet or garbanzo bean salads), all coming from East Side’s commissary kitchen. The beer list will focus on local and imported bottles and taps, as well as Lone Stars and Miller Lites.
“We’ll be a great neighbor to ourselves,” Polk said. The market is aiming to open before the end of the year.
Then there’s East Side Pies’ airport branch, which will narrow down its sprawling menu to ten pies in ten-inch form. It will be found in the West Food Court area, along with Flyrite Chicken, Hat Creek Burger Co., Amy’s Ice Creams, and others, starting sometime in December.
Polk and co-founder/owner Michael Freid opened East Side Pies in 2006, followed by the Airport Boulevard one in 2010, and West Anderson Lane in 2012.
