— There’s a new kolache delivery service in Austin. Dawn Orsak started Old School Kolaches in July, baking up kolaches filled with peach, prune, apple, fig, pecan, poppy seed, and apricot (no klobasniky here). Kolaches are only available by the pan, which means 24 kolaches with up to four different flavor options, at $60. Delivery is only available in south and central Austin during weekday mornings.
— Rainey Street restaurant Emmer & Rye is renovating its patio, adding more shade and seating to the outdoor space, designed by Drophouse Design. Because of this, the patio will be closed, but the restaurant will remain open during the outdoor construction for the next three months.
— The Big Bake Sale raised $12,482.77 for nonprofit Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Immigrant Services (RAICES) last weekend.
— The James Beard Foundation’s Taste America series is coming to Austin from Thursday through Friday, November 15 through 17. James Beard Award nominee and Olamaie chef Michael Fojtasek will team up with Kismet chefs Sara Kramer and Sarah Hymanson. Events include a separate reception, benefit dinner, and cooking demonstrations (along with Brewer’s Table chef Zach Hunter).
