Poppy’s Southern Recipes, a new family-owned southern and Cajun restaurant, is heading to Steiner Ranch soon. It’s moving into 4300 North Quinlan Park Road, scheduled to open sometime this month.
Poppy’s menu promises Cajun and southern favorites, courtesy a chef from Louisiana who is bringing her family recipes. While the restaurant’s full menu isn’t yet available, but Cajun dishes include po-boys on house-made French bread, étouffée, gumbo, and jambalaya. Rounding out the Southern side are smothered pork chops, chicken fried steak, and pot roast. Poppy’s will also have daily desserts, a full bar, and a covered patio.
The restaurant is operated by Mark and Deidra Harvey along with Deidra’s parents, Alice and Don Gonzales. Don is affectionately called “Poppy” by his grandchildren. The family is from Beaumont, where Alice’s father ran a Mexican food restaurant, but moved to Austin four years ago. Missing the Cajun and southern flavors from home, the family decided to open a restaurant together.
Poppy’s will be open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
