— La Barbecue is cooking up a five-course dinner paired with Austin Eastciders’ ciders. Besides smoked meats, the barbecue spot is making non-barbecue dishes too: piri piri shrimp and Chateaubriand steak with chimichurri. It’s is even mixing up bottles of barbecue sauce made with the cidery’s original flavor. It takes place at Austin Eastciders’ Collaboratory on Wednesday, August 29, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75.
— In light of the announcement of downtown pizzeria Frank & Angie’s eventual shutter, real estate blog Towers dug into what is happening on West Avenue. There’s actually a planned mixed-use development for what will be the former pizzeria address, as well as potentially take over the space where ELM Restaurant Group restaurant Irene’s is currently residing. Writer James Rambin does note that Irene’s has a five-year lease which began in 2016 and runs through 2021, too. Eater reached out to ELM, but the group offered no comment.
— Ahead of Easy Tiger Linc’s projected early October opening, the bakery and beer garden is now hiring front-of and back-of-house staff. The interviews are taking place at Easy Tiger’s headquarters at 610 Brazos Street starting now through Friday, August 24, then again from Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31, and lastly from Monday, September 3 through Friday, September 7, from 3 to 6 p.m.
— Rosedale seafood restaurant Guild’s assistant manager and sommelier Lindsay Drew won second place in TexSom’s best sommelier competition last week. She received a $1,500 scholarship to go towards a master sommelier certification program.
