Pacific Asian restaurant and bar She’s Not Here is opening on Wednesday, August 15 in downtown Austin. The 440 West 2nd Street restaurant will serve up tropical cocktails and Asian food only for dinner for now.
The small bites menu focus Asian dishes, from sushi to larger hot entrees. For the raw fish, nigiri pieces will span hamachi to mebachi (big-eye tuna) to taraba (king crab). Other dishes include the pork adobo, Korean fried chicken, pork ribs, and the sakana tempura with crispy cod fillets. When it opens for lunch, it will include to-go bento boxes.
As for drinks, cocktails will make use of tropical ingredients, like hibiscus rye, roasted coconut, jasmine, cardamom, falooda syrup, and more. There’s even a cocktail made with matcha (matched with vodka, coconut milk, and honey syrup), and yes, there will be plenty of rum.
While the chefs still aren’t named, behind She’s Not Here are Ben Cachila and Christian Romero. Between the two of them, the Austin restaurant vets have worked on Uchi, 40 North, Old Thousand, and others.
For now, She’s Not Here will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and then from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
The West 2nd Street space used to be home to Spanish tapas restaurant Malagas, which closed in September 2016.
