— Alamo Drafthouse is turning to upcoming film Crazy Rich Asians for its next themed menu. Chef Brad Sorenson drew inspiration from the over-the-top dining scenes in the movie, which largely takes place in Singapore. This means pork and ginger dumplings, lychee rice pudding served with mochi, and chicken and shrimp skewers. Scope out the full offerings below. The film premieres on Wednesday, August 15.
— Bon Appetit released the long list for its top ten new restaurants of 2018. The Austin contenders are Mexican restaurant Suerte (which Eater critic Bill Addison already included in his best new restaurants list of the year) and all-day restaurant and bakery Sour Duck Market. It’s curious that beer-obsessed restaurant and brewery the Brewer’s Table did not make the lineup, nor did the casual restaurant and bar Better Half, both of which have been offering strong and thoughtful food in great spaces. The narrowed-down list will be revealed on Tuesday, August 14.
— Someone tried to rob the Whataburger on Burleson Road and East Oltorf Street with a pair of tongs last week.
