Via 313, the majorly beloved Detroit-style pizza shop, decided to move its original food truck from its recent home on Rio Grande Street to Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden a block away on 700 West 6th Street.
This is Via 313’s original trailer, which had been parked in front of Violet Crown Social Club on East 6th Street, but moved in March. The reason? Via opened its third brick-and-mortar pizza shop on 1802 East 6th Street, taking over what had been Collide ATX, that same month, so it didn’t want to cannibalize its own customers. (The truck was temporarily parked in front of Collide-Via during construction too.)
Then Via’s truck relocated over to 510 Rio Grande Street, in front the forthcoming bar Stereotype. (Kung Fu Saloon used to be found here, but it moved to West 6th as well.) Co-owner Brandon Hunt said that there were setbacks with the bar’s construction, so Via needed to move somewhere that was already open.
Buford’s took over what had been Steampunk Saloon in the summer of 2017.
Via 313’s new West 6th Street hours are from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday, and then until midnight Sunday and Wednesday. There are plans to expand these hours, as well as add brunch in the near future too.
Via 313 has three brick-and-mortars (Oak Hill, North Campus, and East 6th), and one other food truck on Rainey Street. Co-owners Brandon and Zane Hunt also run Central East Austin bar Nickel City, which houses their Detroit-style food truck Delray Cafe.
