Erin Russell is associate editor of Eater Austin, a native Austinite, and a big fan of carbs.

The historic building that housed Waller Ballroom is now Edwin’s Sports Bar. Located at 700 East 6th Street, the bar has the same owners, who also run Waller Creek Pub next door. And yes, it is showing the World Cup.

The bar is named after the first mayor of Austin, Edwin Waller. The bar will serve food and drinks, including buckets of beer, a margarita sampler with house-made purées, frosé, and a specialty barrel–aged cocktail. The food menu is still under development, but the Edwin’s team told Eater there will be “elevated bar food” which means “many flavors of fancy fries.” One of these will be Reuben fries, which are fries mixed with house–made corned beef, kraut, Russian dressing, and melted Swiss cheese.

The owners also stressed that Edwin’s will preserve, not renovate, the 1893 building is occupies. This means keeping the brick walls and a 1930s ceiling, although there are 10 TVs throughout the space. The space also has a dog-friendly outdoor courtyard and a balcony overlooking Waller Creek.

Edwin’s is open seven days a week from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.
