Neighborhood pizza restaurant 40 North, the brick-and-mortar version of the beloved pizza trailer, is now open as of today, Friday, May 4. Chef Clint Elmore will sling Neapolitan pies, along with other new dishes, on the edge of downtown Austin at 900 West 10th Street.

The pizza menu brings back 40’s classic pies, like the hot honey, and new ones like the Dandelion made with dandelion greens, onion jam, and pancetta. Then there are new dishes, like the porchetta sandwich, burgers, salads like farro, vegetables (think charred asparagus with poached eggs, fried cauliflower with yogurt), and desserts. For drinks, there will be Austin beer, lesser-known wines, and sodas available as well. Scope out the full opening menu below.

Eater photographer Courtney Pierce took a tour of the revamped bright bungalow space. The white dining room features wood furniture from Litmus Industries, and the walls are lined with minimalist music posters and old family photographs. Out in the back is the original 40 North trailer, along with additional seating.

Elmore opened 40 North’s trailer in 2014, and he shuttered it in 2016 with the goal of opening a restaurant. Instead, though, he joined New York-style pizzeria PS 35 up in Round Rock later that year but left before the restaurant closed last fall. Elmore gained his pizza skills through training in Naples as well as time at Brooklyn pizzeria Paulie Gee’s.

40 North’s hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and then from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

The West 10th Street address has been home to various restaurants in the past, including burger and margarita joint El Sapo (which shuttered quickly) and Bacon.
