Tacodeli, the new-school Austin-born taco chain, is opening its first downtown restaurant at 301 Congress Avenue. It’s set to open sometime in early 2019.
The downtown Tacodeli will be much like the other locations. It will serve tacos for breakfast and lunch until 3 p.m. daily. The menu includes those signature ones like the Otto (refried black beans, bacon, avocado, Jack cheese) and Jess Special (migas, Jack cheese, avocado), along with specials, on flour or corn tortillas paired along with salsas like the salsa doña, as well as aguas frescas and horchata.
Downtown Austin is becoming a bonafide taco hot zone. The city’s other well-known taco chain, Torchy’s Tacos, is also opening its first downtown location, though it will be found in the western part of the neighborhood at 110 San Antonio Street. And already, there are excellent game meat-filled tacos at Dai Due Taqueria and Chi’lantro operates a downtown truck that focuses on breakfast tacos.
Tacodeli chef and founder Roberto Espinosa and partner Eric Wilkerson opened the first restaurant in 1999 on Barton Skyway and Spyglass Drive (which was renovated in 2016), and grew with more locations. This is its sixth Austin restaurant, and there are restaurants in Dallas, Houston, and Plano. It’s also working on a restaurant within the Austin Bergstrom-International Airport.
