— Jester King Brewery now owns the land that the brewery resides on in Dripping Springs. It bought Ceres Park Ranch, which also includes the wood-covered Ceres Park Ranch Event Center (which will eventually open for events and weddings) and Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza (which will now offer the brewery’s beers). In 2016, Jester purchased land next-door to the brewery for a farm, orchard, vineyard, and restaurant in 2015. Overseeing that restaurant is former The Hollow chef Jacob Hilbert.
— John A. Zapp stepped down from his position as a chairman for Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s after he was charged with assault family violence for allegedly hitting his wife in April.
— Alamo Drafthouse is expanding into Cedar Park. It will become part of the Presidio development.
— New Chinese barbecue restaurant Lotus + Cleaver is now offering lunch up in Rock Rose. The daytime menu focuses on customizable bowls with rice, lo mein, vegetables (like chili-garlic eggplant), meats (like spicy dan dan pork with a slow-cooked egg), and pineapple-chili-garlic tofu, along with sides like avocado/shrimp toast and juices. Lunch hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekdays.
— East Austin bar the Cavalier is now serving weekend brunch, which takes on the same Southern vibe as the rest of the menu. This means shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, poutine, rice pudding, along with morning cocktails like mimosas and more. It’s available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
— Time Out Austin announced the finalists for its bar awards this year. It’s full of the expected nominees, from new ones (Las Perlas to Nickel City), legacy bar (Peche to Donn’s Depot), and best cocktail (Half Step’s ginger paloma to King Bee’s frozen Bee’s Knees).
