Red Shed Tavern, the South Austin dive bar, is now closed on 8504 South Congress Avenue. Its last day was Saturday, March 31. Owners Meranda Tillmon and Andrew Hudson decided to not renew the South Congress bar’s ten-year lease. because “circumstances are such it doesn’t make sense for us to renew,” according to its Facebook announcement. Read the full note below.

Red Shed, found in a stone cottage with a big patio, used to be home to biker bar Beverly’s. The bar featured a jukebox, pool table, pinball machine, and fireplace. The longtime bar was featured in several films, including Pair of Aces and Nadine.

Tillmon and Hudson will work on other projects but didn’t reveal what those were.

Red Shed Tavern’s Closing Announcement

Dear Red Shed friends and family,

On this day March 30, 2009 we opened our doors to you, our patrons and friends, for the first time. It is a bittersweet anniversary for us today because with heavy hearts we announce that Red Shed Tavern will close for good at the end of business tomorrow (Saturday), or technically Sunday at 2am. Sadly, it’s no April fool’s joke. We’re at the end of our ten year lease term, and, unfortunately, circumstances are such it doesn’t make sense for us to renew. The time has come to close our little neighborhood bar and move on to new and different projects. We sure will miss the Shed, and all of our fabulous staff, patrons, and friends who helped to build and grow “The Best Bar Keeping South Austin Real” (thanks, Austin Chronicle, 2013 - We’re still milking that one).

Please join us this weekend for one last hurrah to say farewell and to let us thank you. It was a real good run, y’all. So many fond memories. Pour one out for Red Shed Tavern. Thanks for 9 years of great times and great friends.

Love and best wishes,
Meranda, Andy, and Kelly
