Torchy’s Tacos is opening its first-ever downtown Austin location. It’ll be found in the Northshore apartment complex on 110 San Antonio Street. An eagle-eyed tipster noticed the active permit for the restaurant build-out, and the location was confirmed by a rep for the building. It’s pegged to open before the end of the year.
Dubbed Torchy’s Tacos Northshore, the menu will feature the usual array of tacos, queso, street corn, and desserts. It’s unclear whether the new restaurant will serve beer and margaritas, similar to the Mueller location.
This is probably the new location that the local taco chain teased when it shuttered its original South First trailer last month. Eater has reached out for more information; watch this space for updates.
Update, 1:28 p.m.: A Torchy’s Taco rep confirmed the location, but couldn’t confirm when it would open.
Owner Michael Rypka opened the first Torchy’s in 2006. There are 12 current Austin-area Torchy’s Tacos, with the 13th pegged for Belterra Village out in Dripping Springs. The Northshore restaurant will be Torchy’s 14th Austin-area location. Torchy’s even expanded out of Texas into Colorado and Oklahoma.
Torchy’s other Northshore neighbors include fancy Mexican restaurant (with tacos) ATX Cocina and French restaurant and bakery Le Politique. Nearby, Polvo’s Mexican Restaurant is opening its third restaurant on Nueces Street.
