Krua Urban Thai, the Thai restaurant that took over Barley Swine’s first home on 2024 South Lamar Boulevard, is now closed. There has been a sign on the locked doors noting that it’s “closed for renovation.” It seemed to have happened sometime in late March, according to tipsters and Yelp.

Despite the renovation sign, owner and chef Sam Sampaotong confirmed Krua’s shutter, telling Eater that it had to do with permitting. He’s looking to relocate the restaurant to another location. Krua opened in October 2017.

Another tipster told Eater that a staffer informed them that Krua’s former space will be turned into a Peruvian restaurant.

Krua’s other neighbors in the South Lamar shopping plaza include El Meson, Golden Goose (which used to be the original home of dive bar Horseshoe Lounge), Tiny Pies (which used to be Lick Honest Ice Creams), and the shuttered Henri’s Wine & Cheese Shop (which closed after a fire).
