— Thankfully, April Fools’ Day took place on Sunday, but the weekend didn’t stop Texas and Austin restaurants and food/drink companies from participating in the day of pranks:
- Holly Street restaurant Launderette faked everyone out by declaring it was getting rid of its ever-famous birthday cake ice cream sandwiches yesterday.
- Skylark Lounge owner Johnny LaTouf feigned a relocation to the Domain’s Rock Rose, but then revealed the joke, saying dive bar is “East Austin-certified,” and would never move.
- Torchy’s Tacos pretended the taco company was getting into the perfume game with Eau de Queso, two cheese-dip scents with notes of chile and cilantro.
- Pluckers Wing Bar faked out San Antonio by realistically “announcing” that the chain wouldn’t expand into San Antonio anymore after all because of zoning issues.
— Flix Brewhouse, the combination movie theater, restaurant and brewery mini-chain that is based in Round Rock, is looking to expand more, with slated locations for Wisconsin, Arizona, and elsewhere in Texas.
— East Austin cafe Fleet Coffee is closing at 1 p.m. for air conditioning maintenance.
