La Morra Pizzeria, the roaming Los Angeles-based pizza restaurant known for its sold-out pop-ups and events, is coming to Bufalina for a pizza takeover. It takes place on Monday, April 16 on 1519 East Cesar Chavez from 6 to 9 p.m.

La Morra focuses on Neapolitan-style pies made with naturally leavened sourdough from chef Zach Swemle. The Austin pop-up menu will feature six or seven of those wood-fired pies, including the Margherita, Napoli, and clam pies.

Former New Yorkers Swemle and partner Marlee Blodgett started La Morra in Charleston as a pizza trailer. They decided to leave the East Coast city for Los Angeles. Its last Charleston pizza party included pie collaborations with pitmaster John Lewis (the founding La Barbecue pitmaster who left for the East Coast to open his own restaurants) and other local chefs.

Currently, they have two weekly pop-ups in Los Angeles, one in Culver City at Hayden Wine Bar and the other in East Hollywood at Tabula Rasa. Eventually, this is going to lead to a brick-and-mortar restaurant in California. They always wanted to do a pizza pop-up in Austin.

Bufalina isn’t new to hosting out-of-town pizza pop-ups. Roberta’s from New York took over the restaurant twice, most recently last month for three days.
