For some reason, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is cooking up a feast during South by Southwest. It’s part of the premiere party for Fox Sports’ new documentary series Phenoms, which covers aspiring World Cup soccer players. The Hell’s Kitchen host will cook up various international hors d'oeuvres, from miniature smoked sausages to tarts to Mexican meatballs.
Turns out Ramsay is a big soccer fan: he revealed on MasterChef Junior in 2015 that he wanted to be a soccer player. He also hurt himself while playing in a celebrity charity soccer match in England back in 2012. A rep for the event told eater that Ramsay will also be involved with the channel’s coverage leading up to the World Cup, which takes place in June.
There will be a discussion with Ramsay, the channel’s studio host Rob Stone, Phenoms executive producer and former soccer player Mario Melchiot, and another executive producer, David Worthen.
The event takes place on Sunday, March 11 at Hangar Lounge on 318 Colorado Street from 8 to 11 p.m. While people with badges will be given priority entry, people can also RSVP for the event.
