Taco truck staple Mellizoz Tacos opened its new standalone restaurant, Cruzteca Mexican Kitchen, over the weekend on 5207 Brodie Lane in Sunset Valley. As a refreshing change of pace, this is ahead of its predicted spring opening.
Cruzteca’s menu offers the same as its truck sibling, like tacos, tortas, chips, queso, guacamole, fries, and Mexican street corn. It’s starting out with a limited menu, as reported by CultureMap Austin. Eventually, newer items like fajitas, enchiladas, and a full bar with margaritas and beer will be available.
Cruzteca’s space is simple, with booth seating and tables. It was designed by interior design company Vazzo Spaces. Mellizoz took over Stuffed Cajun Meat Market’s southern location for the new restaurant.
Cruzteca is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Mellizoz Tacos opened in 2008 as Izzoz Tacos by chef John Galindo, his brother Tony, his sister Jessica Galindo Winters, and her husband Adam. It changed the name in 2012 because of a trademark infringement lawsuit. Now the truck is operated by Jessica and Adam Winters.
