Via 313 is opening its third Detroit pizza-slinging restaurant on 1802 East 6th Street starting on Thursday, March 8, just in time for the South by Southwest swarms, according to Austin 360. The original food trailer, which had been temporarily set up at that East 6th address until this opening, will move on over to West 6th Street area to 510 Rio Grande Street, in front of the former Kung Fu Saloon.
On deck are those beloved, thick Detroit-style pizza, along with thin-crust circular bar pies, along with cheese bread, meatballs, salads, and diadina. Expect beer, wine, cocktails, and sodas, including Faygo pop.
At first, the East 6th pizza restaurant will only open from that Thursday to Saturday, March 10, from 5 to 11 p.m., and then fully reopen on Monday, March 12. Full hours are from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Lunch will be added sometime in April.
Via’s original trailer’s new home on Rio Grande will be in front of soon-to-be new bar Stereotype. from Lion’s Share Hospitality (which oversees Parlor & Yard and Nueces Kitchen and Bar). That Kung Fu Saloon closed last spring and relocated over to 716 West 6th Street.
The food truck will open on Tuesday, March 6. It will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight, Sunday through Wednesday; and then from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, with plans to extend into lunch later.
This third Via 313 brick-and-mortar took over what used to be everything-space Collide ATX from Dunlap ATX. Via 313’s very first trailer (the one that will be found on Rio Grande) opened in front of dive bar Violet Crown Social Club at 1111 East 6th Street in December 2011. (Korean-Mexican fusion food truck Chi’lantro took over its post this month.)
There are two other Via 313 brick-and-mortars, one in Oak Hill and the other on Guadalupe, as well as one more trailer at Rainey Street beer bar Craft Pride. Plus Via 313 owners Brandon and Zane Hunt operate everyday bar Nickel City on East 11th Street with Travis Tober, which features their Detroit-style food truck Delray Cafe.
