Ramen Tatsu-ya and Kemuri Tatsu-ya chefs and owners Takuya Matsumoto and Tatsu Aikawa are renting the restaurant that used to house Qui/Kuneho on 1600 East 6th Street, as noted on Reddit.

A rep for the restaurants confirmed the lease, but wouldn’t divulge any further details. It’s safe to expect some sort of restaurant since that’s what the building entails already.

Ramen Tatsu-ya appears to be building a mini-empire in Austin. The team is also renting another space on 7301 Burnet Road, but they haven’t revealed what they’re doing with it yet. Already under Matsumoto and Aikawa’s belts are two locations of noodle soup spot Ramen Tatsu-ya and Texas-Japanese izakaya Kemuri Tatsu-ya.

The East Sixth street address used to be home to two of chef Paul Qui’s restaurants. Most recently, it was Japanese restaurant Kuneho, which closed last fall. Before that, it was the award-winning restaurant Qui the restaurant. Qui the chef is currently awaiting trial for domestic violence charges with a May court date in Austin. In 2016, Qui allegedly beat up his girlfriend in Austin.
