Ramen Tatsu-ya and Kemuri Tatsu-ya chefs and owners Takuya Matsumoto and Tatsu Aikawa signed a lease up on 7301 Burnet Road, according to Austin 360, which will probably mean a new restaurant from the pair.
“We liked the space, so we signed the lease,” Aikawa told Eater. As of now, there are no concrete plans for the new address, so it’s unclear if it will serve as a third Austin location of Ramen Tatsu-ya, and expansion of Kemuri, or a brand new restaurant altogether. It’s safe to expect some sort of Japanese cuisine at the very least.
Matsumoto and Aikawa are the geniuses behinds Austin’s best ramen spot, Ramen Tatsu-ya, and Texas-Japanese izakaya Kemuri Tatsu-ya. They opened the first location of Ramen Tatsu-ya on Research Boulevard in August 2012, followed by the South Lamar location in January 2015 and the Houston one in February 2017.
The duo branched out with Kemuri Tatsu-ya, which focuses on Texas and Japanese dishes like chili-cheese octopus takoyaki and smoked meats, in January 2017. The restaurant is one of the James Beard Awards semifinalists for the best new restaurant category this year. Eater roving critic Bill Addison named the restaurant as one of the country’s best new restaurants in 2017.
The Burnet location will be found in the same shopping plaza as Juiceland, Tacodeli, and the Local Post Pub.
