Austin is getting its first ShareTea shop, a bubble tea chain from Taipei, Taiwan. It’s coming to the Anderson Arbor shopping center at 13343 North Highway 183, Suite 275, and is expected to open late spring or early summer.
ShareTea serves flavored teas, milk teas, and smoothies topped with tapioca pearls, jellies, puddings, and fruit. Many ingredients are shipped directly from Taiwan, and the chain avoids syrups in favor of fresh fruit purees. Ice level, sweetness, and toppings can all be customized. Franchise owner Christine Nieh tells Eater popular items include Hawaii fruit tea and matcha ice blended with ice cream.
Nieh tells Eater she would travel to Taiwan as a child and buy ShareTea every day, and hopes to bring that experience to Austin. Though construction just started on the first location, the University of Texas alumna hopes to open a store by campus, too.
The chain has 500 stores in 18 countries (including outposts in Dallas and Houston), and is known for high-quality tea drinks.
ShareTea joins a bevy of other bubble tea options in Austin, including Gong Cha in Cedar Park and recently opened Yoshi Ramen, which serves bubble tea.
ShareTea will not serve food. However, it is next door to the second location of casual Hawaiian spot Ola Poke, which has poke, loco moco, and musubi as well as Korean-inspired dishes like fried chicken, bulgogi, and pancakes.
