Television chef and personality Andrew Zimmern’s new travel show, The Zimmern List, scoped out Austin for its second episode. The show premieres with two half-hour episodes on Tuesday, March 13 at 8 p.m. on the Travel Channel, features the four-time James Beard Award-winner sharing his personal recommendations on places to eat. The first episode is all about Los Angeles.
Zimmern rose to fame for his show Bizarre Foods, but kept his Austin culinary tour fairly tame. Zimmern’s first stop was, unsurprisingly, Franklin Barbecue. He also explored Tex-Mex offerings at Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon and Guero’s, and looked into the food truck scene at 5000 Burnet, including The Big Kahuna and Tita’s (which is currently closed). His final stops were for ramen at Ramen Tatsu-ya (where he was spotted by Eater Austin) and more barbecue at Stubb’s.
Press photos provided to Eater also show Zimmern at Mueller bao spot Bao’d Up and Jewboy Burgers, which is also at 5000 Burnet.
Look for Zimmern at these spots when he makes his return to Austin next month to speak at South by Southwest. He will be speaking on a panel with fellow celebrity chef Jose Andres about changing the world through food.
