Homegrown sports bar The Draft Pick seems to have closed its doors over the weekend. Eater’s call to the bar’s building management indicated that The Draft Pick is permanently closed; meanwhile, the bar’s Facebook has been deleted. A Redditor also noticed locked doors and signage for non-payment of rent.
This is the second Austin restaurant to shutter suddenly in February, as hot dog specialist Frank closed temporarily (and still hasn’t reopened).
The Draft Pick, which was located at the Amli South Shore at 1620 East Riverside Drive, opened in 2011 and was profiled by Eater for its one-year anniversary. It was known for chicken wings, a local-focused 32 beers on tap, and large TV screens for watching sports, so those looking for a place to cheer on the Olympic Games will have to go elsewhere.
The Draft Pick was part of the Baldirama Restaurant Group, which also operates the three locations of The Texican Cafe and Cafe 1626, before it was bought by Southside Flying Pizza and closed.
