Lauded barbecue food truck Micklethwait Craft Meats is edging closer to that brick-and mortar in Smithville, Micklethwait Craft Market. Last weekend, the new location hosted an open house so fans could get a peek at the new space — and to sweeten the deal, there was free brisket.
The new store will be a combination barbecue restaurant, grocery, and gift store. A staffer confirmed to Eater that Micklethwait Craft Market is eyeing an opening by 2019. The opening was originally scheduled for November, but progress pictures show the space looking a bit bare still.
The barbecue portion of the store will be open Thursday through Sunday, serving lunch on Thursday and Friday and dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
Micklethwait opened in 2012 and landed on Texas Monthly’s list of 50 best barbecue spots in the state in 2017. The trailer announced plans for expansion in 2016, and the brick and mortar in Smithville was announced in March this year.
