Local coffee shop and cafe mini-chain Austin Java is opening its fifth location out in South Austin. The 5404 Manchaca Road will open in the Westgate neighborhood starting on Friday, December 7.
The Austin Java Manchaca will serve its same general American menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, much like the other locations (think toasts, tacos, pastas, sandwiches, burgers, omelets, etc.). It will also include a drive-thru.
The coffee menu will feature beans from Austin Java’s roasting facility out in Dripping Springs helmed by head roaster Matt Ralls, as well as others, plus house-made sodas. The full bar will serve up classic and house cocktails, along with wine and beer.
The new space is being designed by Lilianne Steckel Interior Design’s Lilianne Steckel, with yellow and white accent walls, the white marble-topped bar, an assortment of seating from tables to banquets to lounges, as well as a conference-style seating section meant to be used for co-working. The patio will be dog-friendly too. The Manchaca cafe heralds Austin Java’s new branding look from Tilted Chair.
Austin Java has been undergoing major changes in the past two years. It shuttered its original North Austin location in October 2017 as well as its iconic one on Barton Springs this summer. Then it opened in Dripping Springs, the Met Center, and San Marcos.
Still to come is its standalone brewery and taproom Distant State Beer, which will be found near the Austin Java in Dripping Springs. The chain has been open since 1995.
The address was originally pegged to become Strange Brew’s new 24-hour restaurant, but the coffee shop closed in 2017.
The Austin Java Manchaca hours will be from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
