Austin is getting a new downtown tiki bar with the eventual opening of The Lost Lei. It will be found at 117 West 4th Street, Suite 101A starting in March 2019.

There isn’t much known about Lost Lei at this point. The bare-bones website notes that it will become “Austin’s Premier Tiki-Bar Destination.” The owner is Derik Cooper, and this appears to be his first hospitality project.

Lost Lei will be found within the same Warehouse District building as several other bars and restaurants at the 117 West 4th Street address: Capital Grille, Parker Jazz Club, and RA Sushi Bar

This isn’t the first time a tiki bar has attempted to open in downtown Austin. There was Isla, the originally tiki-focused bar from Peche owner Rob Pate. The bar went through different menu iterations since it opened in 2015 but ultimately closed in 2017.

While Austin doesn’t have a straight-forward tiki bar (that is, until the Ramen Tatsu-ya team opens its own tiki bar, Tiki Tatsu-ya, on South Lamar), many bars currently offer up tiki and tiki-inspired cocktails already, like Roosevelt Room, Last Straw, and others.
