Forthcoming boutique hotel Arrive East Austin nabbed two very talented local chefs to oversee its restaurant and bar: essential Austin restaurant Lenoir chefs and co-owners Todd Duplechan and Jessica Maher. The hotel, restaurant, and bar are all to be found at 1813 East 6th Street, opening in late spring or early summer 2019.
While much isn’t known about the two upcoming establishments, there are names, at least. There’s the restaurant Vixen’s Wedding and the bar Lefty’s. Arrive’s website notes that there should be one more restaurant also run by a local Austin chef, though it isn’t mentioned in the job listing (unless the bar is also considered a restaurant), as well a coffee shop.
Duplechan and Maher will function as operators, and the hotel is currently looking for its executive chef. Eater has reached out for more information; watch this space for updates.
That corner of East 6th and Chicon streets is already home to some of the city’s best restaurants and bars. There’s Mexican restaurant Suerte, pizzeria Via 313, and cocktail bar Whisler’s right across the street from the hotel; brewery Lazarus Brewing Co., easygoing bar Last Straw, and coffee shop Cuvee found caddy-corner; and another brewery Zilker Brewing Company, Tex-Mex mainstay Tamale House East, and dive bar Grackle found to the east.
Arrive is based in Palm Springs, California, where its first hotel opened in 2016, which includes two restaurants, the beer-focused Draughtsman and cocktail lounge Palm Springs Fan Club. The company is opening three more hotels in Wilmington, North Carolina; Memphis, Tennessee; and Phoenix, Arizona.
Duplechan and Maher opened the intimate prix fixe restaurant Lenoir, with a focus on what it calls “hot weather food” with global influences, in 2012. The South First restaurant is also an Eater 38 restaurant for Austin.
Duplechan is also involved with barbecue restaurant Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew’s Cajun smoked meats restaurant The Switch. He had been part of the comeback of renowned Texas fried chicken chain J.T. Youngblood’s, but that closed over the weekend.
