Chicken and waffle restaurant Wild Chix & Waffles, which has been closed since mid-November, reopened yesterday with a completely gluten-free menu. The Allandale cafe, which was originally coffee and waffle bar The Factory, is located at 7718 Burnet Road.
Wild Chix’s new menu has the same focus on chicken and waffles dishes, with a few other sides. New items include a burger, a salad with tuna, and, finally, a waffle answer to avocado toast, the Waffocado, which has avocado, tomatoes, sprouts, and hemp seeds.
The menu and much of the restaurant’s design comes courtesy of co-owner and executive chef Wendy Wu. “We believe that great-tasting food should be shared with everyone,” said co-owner and daily operator Kayleigh Sky, “and we aim to prove that gluten-free dishes taste just as amazing as non-gluten-free options.”
The timelines of Wild Chix and The Factory are a little confusing: The Factory opened as a coffee and waffle bar in October 2016. It was rebranded and renamed Wild Chix & Waffles in October 2017, but the Factory still operated as a cafe within the restaurant. In September, the Wild Chix brand took over the coffee and tea programs completely.
Wild Chix & Waffles is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The restaurant’s policy against Wi-Fi to encourage interaction is still in place.
