— Brentwood barbecue restaurant Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew announced the lineup for its annual 12 Days of Smoked Meats. Each day will feature a meaty special, starting off with smoked tri-tip fajitas to those famous chicken fried beef ribs. Guest Austin chefs are also collaborating on some dishes again. Holy Roller’s Callie Speer will whip up biscuits with smoked bacon gravy and pulled pork, Lenoir’s Todd Duplechan will make smoked brisket and sausage gumbo, and chef Philip Speer is making poutine with pulled pork. It runs from Tuesday, December 4 through Sunday, December 16 (it skips Monday, December 10).
— The South Austin location of iconic comfort food restaurant and music venue Threadgill’s is closing this weekend (Sunday, December 2 to be exact). The executive vice president of the location’s lease managing company Crockett Properties, Jack Burton, wants to lease the space to another restaurant that will sell alcohol.
— Magazine Esquire released its list of the best new American restaurants of the year. While there were no Austin restaurants on the list, Mexican spot Carnitas Lonja in San Antonio did make it (it also made now-former Eater critic Bill Addison’s best new restaurants list earlier this year).
