Whiskey bar and icehouse Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Icehouse debuted this week in downtown Austin. Located in a shuttered Gatti’s Pizza at 701 West Sixth Street, the bar features an indoor bar and spacious patio.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Icehouse (WTFIcehouse for short) is billed as a lounge with high-end whiskeys, though the drink menu is still being finalized. Given the ample space, there will be live music, and New York sausage spot Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar will have a food truck on-site starting next week. The bar is capitalizing on the fox theme (though its Instagram is making ample use of popular animal Instagram account @juniperfox without credit).
The bar also has a “Style Guide,” aka dress code. Among other things, it prohibits:
- “Excessively low or baggy clothes or pants such that a person’s undergarments or buttocks are exposed”
- “Underwear worn as outer clothing”
- “Symbols that may be considered vulgar, offensive or otherwise likely to cause a disturbance”
- All bags “deemed questionable” are also subject to search
Notably, Kung Fu Saloon, another West Sixth bar, was accused of racism when enforcing its dress code back in 2013, a problem that proved to be rampant throughout all of the bar’s locations. The bar issued one apology for those multiple infractions.
WTFicehouse was first announced in 2015 but, per usual in Austin, opening was delayed until this year. It is open daily, though hours aren’t available yet.
