Popular central east side bar Nickel City has transformed into a boozy tiki pop-up for the holidays. The bar at 1133 East 11th Street will serve drinks concocted by tiki expert Jeff Berry as part of the first-ever Sippin’ Santa, an offshoot of the Miracle pop-up, running now through New Year’s Eve on Monday, December 31.
In addition to the tiki drinks, Nickel City will also be hosting a luau every Saturday in December. The $40 tickets include two Sippin’ Santa drinks, a pupu platter, and photos with Santa.
Nickel City, which is no stranger to playing dress-up (as seen by its recent Halloween costume as Moe’s Tavern from The Simpsons), joins downtown bar the Eleanor in the Miracle festivities, although the atmosphere between the two is quite different. While Miracle is wintery (with a ski lounge), Sippin’ Santa is much more casual, with grass skirts, coconuts, and Santa hats.
Eater photographer Courtney Pierce took a tour through the “Santa’s on vacation”-themed space, highlighting its unique spin on holiday island cheer.
