New gelato food truck Cannone Gelato Italiano brings a new sort of meals-on-wheels to Austin. There’s the food truck proper, parked at Zilker Park-adjacent court the Picnic at 1720 Barton Springs Road, then there’s the bicycle gelato cart, which will roam around the city for events at the such.
Cannone’s gelato flavors will include a lot of the classics, like stracciatella, pistachio, vanilla, hazelnut, chocolate, and salted caramel. There is also sorbets, such as strawberry, lemon, and mango.
Cannone Gelato Italiano owner Salvatore Cannone also owns Italian food truck Cannone Cucina Italiana, which opened in 2016 at the Picnic as well.
A year ago, Salvatore Cannone wanted to get into the gelato business, but rather than open a full store, he wanted to open a bicycle cart instead. To do so, he designed what he dubbed the “smart gelato bike,” which is built to keep gelato cold for at 12 hours in the heat or cold.
Cannone Gelato Italiano’s hours are from noon to 8 p.m. daily
