Tio Pepe Chicken, a Portuguese-style grill restaurant, is now open at the Linc development in North Austin. Located at 6406 North Highway 35, the Highland restaurant offers a take on a Portuguese grill, with an emphasis on spicy peri-peri sauce (a condiment made of chilies, citrus peel, onion, garlic, and lemon juice).
Tio Pepe’s menu is centered around grilled chicken, available by the quarter, half, or whole, with accompanying sides like french fries, cilantro rice, or grilled vegetables. Chickens are basted with choice of peri-peri sauce, which ranges from mild to extra hot and is also available for sale. There’s also a grilled chicken burger, appetizers like wings and hummus, and three types of salad.
On the dessert menu, there’s key lime cheesecake, vanilla caramel flan, and three kinds of cake (tres leches, red velvet, and chocolate mousse). The restaurant also serves beer and wine.
Tio Pepe was started by third-generation restaurateur Pepe Garcia, who became enamored with peri-peri sauce while traveling through Portugal.
The Linc, a redevelopment of Highland Mall, is shaping up, with tenants like Austin Film Society movie theater, Peruvian restaurant Lima Criolla, and Tex-Mex restaurant Vivo already moved in. Bakery and beer garden Easy Tiger is still working on a long-awaited expansion to the development.
