Austin City Limits Festival allows both performers and celebrities alike to try out the local food scene, and many took advantage over the first ACL weekend.
Miguel Vidal, the owner and pitmaster of Valentina’s Tex Mex Barbecue, is a huge Deftones fan — he even named one of his smokers Chino, after the band’s lead singer Chino Moreno. The trailer started an Instagram campaign to get the band’s attention, and it worked:
Modesty Vidal, Miguel’s wife, and co-owner of Valentina’s, reported that “Chino was such a nice laid back chill guy.”
David Byrne, former lead singer of the Talking Heads, stopped by another beloved Austin taco truck. He fueled up on Veracruz All Natural before his set on Friday.
French rock band Phoenix apparently took more time to explore the city. They went to Joann’s, the McGuire Moorman-owned diner that just opened by the Austin Motel on South Congress, during the staff training last week.
With most performers returning for weekend two this week, it remains to be seen what restaurants will warrant a return visit, like Jay Z’s La Barbecue order last year.
